Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Government-Sponsored Pilgrimage for 1 Lakh Devotees to Ayodhya
Desk Report, June 9, 2024: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Assam government will sponsor the pilgrimage of 1 lakh residents to Ayodhya this year. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to promote religious inclusivity and support the underprivileged by ensuring that economic constraints do not hinder their spiritual aspirations.
In his announcement, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating religious aspirations for those financially constrained. “Many people want to pay their prayers to Ram Lalla, but due to their financial backwardness, they are unable to do so. That is why we will try to facilitate as much as we can for them,” he stated.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by various sections of society. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards making religious pilgrimages more accessible to the less fortunate, potentially setting a precedent for other states to follow.
Tribute to Ayodhya’s Resilience
Chief Minister Sarma also took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to Ayodhya’s enduring spirit amidst the backdrop of the Ram temple movement. In his tweet, he acknowledged the hardships endured by Ayodhya’s people, emphasizing their sacrifices as pivotal in the triumph of civilization. “Tribute to the enduring spirit of Ayodhya. The sacrifices made by the people here were not in vain; they are the backbone of our cultural triumph,” Sarma tweeted.
Support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi
During his recent visit to Ayodhya, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his aspirations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued leadership, voicing his hope for Modi’s re-election in 2029. “As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his third consecutive term, we look forward to his continued leadership and hope for his re-election in 2029,” Sarma remarked.
Implementation and Logistics
As preparations begin for the pilgrimage, the Assam government is expected to implement various logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth travel of the 1 lakh devotees. This initiative aims to strengthen cultural and spiritual ties between Assam and Ayodhya, fostering a sense of unity and shared heritage among the diverse populations of India.
The Assam government’s decision to bear the expenses for such a large number of pilgrims reflects a significant commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges and promoting religious harmony.
