Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita Inducted into Modi Government
Desk Report, June 9, 2024: Sarbananda Sonowal, a stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Assam, and Pabitra Margherita, a Member of Parliament representing the BJP from Assam, were sworn in as ministers in the Modi government. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was officiated by President Droupadi Murmu.
Expressing his gratitude, Sonowal conveyed his delight at serving as a Cabinet Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic third term. He expressed his commitment to serving the nation diligently, acknowledging the unwavering support of the people of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency and the guidance of his mentors. Sonowal extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Modi for entrusting him with this responsibility.

He pledged, along with his fellow ministers, to work tirelessly towards realizing this vision and propelling India towards greater heights of peace and prosperity.
Pabitra Margherita’s formal swearing-in as a Minister of State in the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscores the growing representation of the Northeast in the central government. Margherita’s inclusion in Modi’s council of ministers accentuates the NDA’s commitment to promoting regional diversity.
In the latest Council of Ministers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, three representatives hail from the Northeast: Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, and Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita. This representation reflects the government’s focus on ensuring diverse voices and regional inclusivity in national governance.
