Truck Intercepted in Early Morning Cattle Smuggling Attempt at Jorabat Crossing; Two Arrested
Guwahati, June 11, 2024: In a significant operation early this morning, an EGPD team from the Jorabat Outpost of Basistha Police Station successfully intercepted a truck, bearing registration number AS 06 BC 1538, suspected of smuggling cattle. The operation took place at the Jorabat crossing, a strategic point leading into Meghalaya.
The truck was found to be illegally transporting 28 cattle, with the intent of smuggling them across state lines. Following the interception, the police apprehended two individuals in connection with the smuggling attempt. The arrested suspects have been identified as Saddam Hussain (29) from Udalguri and Jalaluddin (22) from Kharupetia.
Both individuals are currently in custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them. The authorities are conducting further investigations to uncover the broader network involved in this smuggling operation.
