Indian Army Demonstrates Flood Relief Expertise in Joint Exercise ‘JAL RAHAT’ at IIT Guwahati
Guwahati, Jun 12, 2024: Indian Army conducted Exercise JAL RAHAT, a joint flood relief exercise, in coordination with ASDMA, NDRF, SDRF, SSB and Assam Police at IIT Guwahati. The exercise was aimed at spreading awareness about flood relief operations amongst locals and establish synergy between all stakeholders.
The exercise highlighted the limitless potential of civil military cooperation and demonstrated the commitment and capability of all stakeholders in conduct of relief operations. Exercise JAL RAHAT, while highlighting the synergized efforts of all stakeholders to mitigate the impact of flood disasters on life and material, also focused on meticulously planned drills, including rescue operations, on the spot medical assistance and preparation of improvised means of flood relief expedients. A specialist team from the Army also depicted a rescue mission to save a stranded individual from inundated areas using a helicopter with winching capability. In addition, teams of SDRF and NDRF showcased their specialist skills in rescuing people in deep waters.
The exercise has instilled a sense of confidence amongst the locals about the capabilities of the flood relief columns and assured the populace of a timely and effective response of the Indian Army and all government agencies during a crisis. The event reinforced Indian Army’s commitment to nation building and the safety of its citizens. Maj Gen Vishal Singh, SM, VSM General Officer Commanding 21 Mountain Division attended the event as chief guest.
