Guwahati Police Arrest Two for Possession of Fake Currency and Gold
Guwahati, June 25, 2024: In a significant operation, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Dispur Police Station apprehended two individuals in connection with the possession of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and counterfeit gold. The suspects, identified as Hiramul Islam, 24, of Bihpuria, and Nazirul Islam, 19, of Laluk, were arrested following a routine check.
During the operation, Police officials seized FICN amounting to Rs 34,09,000, all in Rs 500 denominations, and a piece of fake gold from the suspects’ vehicle, bearing the registration number AS 12 CC 0399.
The police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the EGPD to combat financial crimes and maintain public safety in the region.
Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the illicit trade.
