Assam Chief Minister Leads Efforts to Aid Flood Victims, Directs DCs

Guwahati, July 04, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a virtual meeting with all District Commissioners (DCs) on Wednesday. The meeting focused on addressing the recent floods and ensuring swift and effective relief and rehabilitation for flood-affected victims.

Key Directives from the Chief Minister

Dr. Sarma issued several crucial directives to ensure a coordinated response to the disaster:

1. Immediate Relief Measures: Immediate implementation of relief measures, including rescue operations and rehabilitation efforts, is essential.

2. Shelter Camps: Establishment of shelter camps for temporary accommodation until rehabilitation is complete is mandated.

3. Water Management: Alternative arrangements for pumping water at sluice gates and drainage systems, and repair of broken bridges, must be made.

4. Geo Bags Deployment: Deploy geo bags to prevent water from re-entering rural areas.

5. Essential Supplies: Ensure provision of storage water and other essential supplies.

6. Damage Survey: Conduct a comprehensive survey of flood damage for timely intervention.

7. Sanitation and Nutrition: Supply adequate sanitary napkins, clean drinking water, and child food in relief camps.

8. Rehabilitation Grants: Secure rehabilitation grants for flood-affected individuals by August 15.

9. Report Preparation: Prepare and submit detailed reports by DCs promptly.

10. Uninterrupted Supplies: Ensure uninterrupted flood relief supplies, with direct communication with the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department for advance capital if necessary.

These measures aim to provide immediate relief to flood victims and ensure their swift rehabilitation. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely intervention and coordinated efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods.
