Assam Police Crack Human Trafficking Racket, Recover 2 Missing Girls
Guwahati, July 08, 2024: In a dramatic turn of events, the Bhangagarh Police Station successfully dismantled a human trafficking network, rescuing two missing girls and apprehending key suspects involved in the heinous crime.
The ordeal began when a distressed mother lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Bhangagarh Police Station, reporting that her 18-year-old daughter had been pressuring her to purchase a new mobile phone. Upon her refusal, the daughter left for the house of a friend, and both girls subsequently went missing.
As the investigation progressed, the girl’s brother received a ransom call demanding ₹30,000 for her release. The call was traced to Purnia, Bihar, prompting the Bhangagarh Police to dispatch a team to the location. The police apprehended Tanveer Alom, who had made the extortion call, and successfully recovered the two victim girls.
Further investigation revealed a complex web of deceit and exploitation. The girls, intending to travel to Delhi, encountered a man named Sikandar Ali at the Paltanbazar Railway Station in Guwahati. Sikandar Ali, feigning assistance, handed the girls over to Idrish Ali of Basistha. Idrish Ali, in collusion with his wife, Babli, and another woman, Khairun Nessa of Panjipara, West Bengal, transported the girls to Siliguri by bus. The girls were subsequently sold to a man named Akbor in Panjipara, Bihar, for ₹1,10,000. Akbor then handed them over to Tanveer Alom, who forced the victims to work in a brothel in Rawta, Bihar.
With substantial evidence in hand, the police arrested Idrish Ali from Pilinkata, Basistha, and Sikandar Ali from the Paltanbazar Railway Station. The investigation also uncovered that Khairun Nessa, who was residing at Idrish Ali’s house, was planning to traffic another girl to Bihar. She was promptly arrested.
All four accused have been produced before the judicial magistrate and placed under police remand. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to apprehend Babli, the absconding wife of Idrish Ali, who is believed to be a key figure in the trafficking ring.
This case underscores the alarming prevalence of human trafficking, where vulnerable girls are lured with false promises and subsequently sold into brothels. The Bhangagarh Police’s swift action and coordinated efforts have not only rescued the victims but also highlighted the urgent need for vigilance and stringent measures to combat human trafficking.
Further investigation is ongoing to uncover additional links and bring all perpetrators to justice.
