Gossaigaon, January 16, 2024 — In a distressing turn of events during the festive season of Bihu, a woman, identified as Deblai Roy, met a gruesome fate at the hands of her husband, Niranjan Barman, in Dalgaon near Gossaigaon Sub-Division headquarters town.
Deblai Roy, a resident of Dalgaon in Gossaigaon, was living with her three children, struggling to navigate daily life. Approximately two months ago, she entered into a second marriage with Niranjan Barman from Jamadarpara, Bhotgaon in Kokrajhar.
Living in Dalgaon with their two children, Niranjan rented a small room in Gosaigaon town a month ago, working as a master mason while Deblai engaged in domestic work. Unfortunately, frequent nocturnal abuse from Niranjan cast a shadow over their domestic life.
Tragically, Niranjan allegedly harbored sinister plans to end Deblai’s life. On January 10, during Bihu celebrations, he took her to his home in Bhotgaon by train. Subsequent events unfolded with chilling silence as there was no communication between them.
Concerns escalated when the younger daughter’s attempts to contact her mother proved futile. On January 11, Niranjan’s mobile phone went silent after he received a call, notifying him to return to Gossaigaon. With growing apprehension, the son and daughter, after two days of searching, discovered the distressing news on social media.
The lifeless and decapitated body of Deblai Roy was tragically recovered from the Dardaria river in Chot Malandubi village of Kokrajhar on January 12. The grieving son accuses his father, Niranjan Barman, of committing the heinous act and is demanding a thorough investigation to ensure justice for his mother’s murder.
