Dhubri Police Arrest Former Policeman and Brother for Motorcycle Theft
Dhubri, July 10, 2024: Dhubri police arrested a former policeman and his younger brother for stealing a motorcycle from the District Commissioner’s office. The suspects, Naba Barman and Neel Akash, were detained in Gauripur, Dhubri district, after the theft of a Bajaj Pulsar (Reg. No. AS 17 J 9850).
The bike owner promptly informed the police, who swiftly launched an investigation. Authorities recovered the stolen bike and apprehended the two suspects. Naba Barman, previously arrested for drug-related offenses, had a history of criminal activity.
Naba Barman was initially appointed to the Assam Police on compassionate grounds following his father’s death. However, after joining, he engaged in drug trade alongside the use of liquor and cannabis. A local source reported that Naba Barman was arrested by Gauripur police for drug possession and subsequently suspended from duty. After his release from jail, he resumed his illegal activities.
The brothers, known for creating panic in the Asharikandi area, had been involved in thefts to fund their activities. The Home Department eventually terminated Naba Barman’s service. On the night of July 09, Dhubri police arrested both brothers from their residences in Asharikandi and took them to Dhubri police station. They were later placed in judicial custody.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Dhubri police to curb criminal activities and ensure public safety.
