Supreme Court Grants Bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Money-Laundering Case
Desk Report, July 12, 2024: In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money-laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy. However, Kejriwal will remain in custody due to ongoing interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a separate case.
The bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, delivered the judgment, noting that Kejriwal has been incarcerated for over 90 days. The court’s decision to grant interim bail in the excise policy case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) offers a temporary reprieve for the Delhi Chief Minister, who has been embroiled in legal battles on multiple fronts.
The ED’s case pertains to alleged money laundering linked to irregularities in the Delhi government’s liquor policy. Despite the bail in this case, Kejriwal’s immediate release remains on hold as the CBI continues its investigation into another matter.
