Bhola Nath College Achieves Autonomous Status for a Decade
Dhubri, July 16, 2024: In a significant milestone, Bhola Nath College, Dhubri, has been conferred with autonomous status for the next 10 academic years by the Standing Committee on Autonomous Colleges. This recognition follows the institution’s attainment of an A+ Grade in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation, a decision now approved by the Commission Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The formal conferment of autonomous status was officiated by Dr. Gopi Chand Merugu, Deputy Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Ministry of Education. The announcement was made during a meeting held on June 25, 2024, confirming the autonomy of Bhola Nath College from the academic year 2024–2025 through 2033–2034, as per clause 7.5 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023.
Subsequent to this development, Gauhati University has been requested to issue the necessary notification within 30 days, in alignment with the aforementioned UGC regulations.
As an autonomous institution, Bhola Nath College must adhere to all provisions set forth in the UGC Regulations for Autonomous Colleges. Non-compliance with these stipulations could result in actions as outlined in Clause-13 of the UGC regulations.
Moreover, the college is instructed to seek an extension of its autonomous status at least three months before the current autonomy period concludes. This requirement, as emphasized by Dr. Merugu, ensures continued compliance and operational standards.
In addition to maintaining its autonomous status, Bhola Nath College is advised to pursue required accreditations from NAAC or the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) at least six months before the current validity expires. Achieving and maintaining the requisite grades are vital for ongoing recognition and quality assurance.
The institution is also required to submit a detailed report concerning the establishment of an Examination Cell and the constitution of Statutory Bodies in accordance with Clauses 11 and 12 of the UGC regulations. This measure aims to ensure the proper management of academic, financial, and administrative affairs.
Furthermore, Bhola Nath College is encouraged to take proactive steps toward the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and to inform the UGC of its progress.
The recognition of Bhola Nath College as an autonomous institution marks a new chapter in its pursuit of academic excellence and institutional growth.
