Manipur Police Recover Arms and Ammunition in Extensive Search Operations
Desk Report, July 18, 2024: In a series of coordinated search operations, Manipur Police have made significant recoveries in the Kakching and Imphal West districts. The operations, aimed at enhancing security and combating illegal activities, yielded an array of arms, ammunition, and other illicit items.
In Kakching District, search and area domination operations resulted in the recovery of the following items from Moltingcham Village:
– One locally made rifle
– Two Baofeng handsets
– One Chinese hand grenade
– One lethod shell
– One pistol magazine
– Two .303 magazine charger bases
– One grenade key
– One 2-inch mortar shell wing
– Thirty-seven empty case ammunitions
– One misfired round
– Two locally made “POMPY LAUNCHERS”
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the search operations the following recoveries were made:

Meanwhile, in Imphal West District, police operations in Sanjenbam Village led to the seizure of:
– Seventy-two live case ammunitions
– Ten empty case ammunitions
– Two 51-mortar shells
– Two 2-inch Para shells (illumination shells)
– One digital video recorder (marked as PRAMA)
– Two handsets (Baofeng) with an extra battery (Baofeng)
– One empty Bren magazine
– One pistol holster
– One pair of BP vests (black in color)
– Two four-wheeler vehicles
– Various other miscellaneous items

In a separate development related to the murder investigation of Merangir Chiru on July 15, 2024, Manipur Police arrested Khangenbam Sanaton alias Sanatomba Singh, aged 53. He was presented before the Court of the Hon’ble JMFC Imphal West-I and remanded to police custody for eight days. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the case.
In connection with the murder of (L) Merangir Chiru on 15.07.2024, Manipur Police arrested one individual identified as Khangenbam Sanaton @ Sanatomba Singh (53 years). He was later produced before the Court of the Hon’ble JMFC Imphal West-I and remanded to 8 (eight) days police…
