Police Intercept Cattle Smuggling Attempt at Jorabat Crossing
Guwahati, July 25, 2024: The East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) thwarted two attempts to smuggle cattle into Meghalaya at Jorabat Crossing early this morning, resulting in the interception of three vehicles and the arrest of seven individuals.
The first operation was conducted by the EGPD team from Jorabat Out Post of Basistha Police Station, which intercepted a Bolero truck (AS 26 AC 1386) and a car (AS 12 M 6199) carrying 31 live cattle. The vehicles were stopped as they attempted to cross into Meghalaya. The arrested smugglers were identified as Kaimur Ali (22), Ajijul Haque (23), Abzar Ali, Faiz Uddin (26), all hailing from Kharupetia, and Abu Samer (24) from Dalgaon.
In a separate but related operation, the same EGPD team intercepted another vehicle (AS 28 AC 0656) at Jorabat Crossing, which was found to be smuggling 25 live cattle. Two individuals, Saidur Rahman (26) and Ikramul Ali (27), both residents of Kharupetia, were apprehended.
Legal actions have been initiated against the arrested individuals. The operations underscore the EGPD’s ongoing commitment to combating cattle smuggling in the region.
