Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh Clinch Bronze in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event
Sports Desk, July 30, 2024: On Tuesday, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh clinched India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics, earning a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. This triumph marks India’s second shooting medal at the ongoing Paris Games, following Manu Bhaker’s bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
The Indian pair demonstrated remarkable skill and composure throughout the competition. Leading 4-2 after the third series, they extended their advantage to 8-2 after the fifth. Despite a late surge from the South Korean team, which narrowed the gap to 10-6 after the eighth series, Bhaker and Singh held their ground to secure a comfortable victory.
For Sarabjot Singh, this bronze medal represents his first Olympic accolade. Manu Bhaker, however, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. Bhaker had previously opened India’s medal tally at the 2024 Paris Olympics with her bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
This achievement places Bhaker among an elite group of Indian athletes who have won multiple medals at the Summer Games, including Norman Pritchard (athletics), Sushil Kumar (wrestling), and PV Sindhu (badminton). Notably, Bhaker is the first Indian to secure multiple medals at a single edition of the Olympics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations to Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh through his social media handle ‘X’, celebrating their bronze medal victory in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics.
