22,000 Foreign Cigarette Packets Seized in Kamrup by STF
Guwahati, July 31, 2024: In a significant operation, the Special Task Force (STF), led by Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kalyan Kr Pathak, intercepted a truck at Amingaon in Kamrup. The truck, bearing the registration number HR 38 Z 8530, was found carrying 11 large boxes containing 22,000 foreign cigarette packets, amounting to a total of 4,40,000 cigarettes.
This seizure highlights violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and tax regulations. The operation resulted in the apprehension of four individuals involved in the illicit transportation of the contraband.
Authorities have intensified efforts to curb the illegal trade of foreign cigarettes, which poses a significant threat to public health and the economy. Further investigations are underway to identify the broader network behind this operation.
