Lovlina Borgohain Advances to Paris Olympics Quarterfinals in Women’s Boxing
Guwahati, July 31, 2024: In a remarkable display of skill and composure, Lovlina Borgohain, the celebrated boxer from Assam, secured her place in the quarterfinals of the women’s 75kg boxing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Borgohain, a bronze medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, triumphed over Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad on Wednesday with a unanimous decision.
The round of 16 match concluded with Borgohain winning by points (5-0). Despite Hofstad’s quick and aggressive style, Borgohain’s calm demeanor and strategic precision allowed her to land crucial punches, ultimately securing her victory. The match’s outcome was determined by a unanimous decision in favor of Borgohain.
Borgohain’s next challenge will be against China’s Li Qian in the quarterfinals, scheduled for August 4. A victory in this upcoming bout will guarantee a medal for India, marking another significant achievement in Borgohain’s illustrious career.
