Flash Flood Prompts Closure of Educational Institutes in Guwahati
Guwahati, August 06, 2024: In response to the severe flash flood triggered by heavy rains in Guwahati on August 05, the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan District has declared the closure of all educational institutes within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area for today.
Both government and private schools, colleges and coaching centres etc. will remain closed as authorities work to address the aftermath of the flooding. The sudden downpour has caused significant waterlogging in various parts of the city, disrupting normal life and necessitating immediate safety measures.
The decision has been made in the interest of public safety and is in accordance with Section 30.2 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The administration is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as needed. Residents are advised to follow official channels for the latest information and directives.
