No VIP Passes for Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple, Confirms Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah
Guwahati, June 12, 2024: Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has dispelled rumors regarding the issuance of VIP passes for the upcoming Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple, scheduled to commence on June 22. Following a comprehensive meeting with the Kamakhya Temple committee and pertinent authorities,Jayanta Mallabaruah affirmed that no VIP passes will be allocated, ensuring that VIPs will partake in the temple festivities akin to all other visitors.
In delineating the festival arrangements, Jayanta Mallabaruah articulated that the primary pathway to Kamakhya Temple will be sealed off from 8 pm onwards, along with the closure of the road leading from Pandu Ghat during the nocturnal hours. Vehicular access will be restricted from Kamakhya Gate, while ferry services will be exclusively operational on the route connecting Pandu Ghat to Kamakhya.
The inaugural ceremony is slated to be held at Pandu port, with designated camps arranged for guests proximate to Pandu Ghat and Kamakhya Railway Station. In an additional measure, Jayanta Mallabaruah emphasized the prohibition of unauthorized food distribution stalls at the fairgrounds.
Taking to social media, Jayanta Mallabaruah expressed, “Jai Maa Kamakhya! The highly anticipated and revered religious festival of Assam, Sri Ambubachi Mela, is scheduled to commence on June 22nd. In preparation, chaired a meeting with the committee members of Maa Kamakhya Mandir and the concerned officials to discuss various arrangements, ensuring a smooth and successful celebration.”
The four-day Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple stands as a pivotal event commemorating the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Maa Kamakhya, attracting throngs of devotees and tourists alike. Situated atop the Nilachal Hills, Kamakhya Temple holds significance as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India, cementing its stature as a revered pilgrimage site. The festival’s unique observance of fertility and womanhood underscores the profound cultural and religious heritage of the temple within Hindu tradition.
