Assam Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking in South Salmara District
Massive Anti-Narcotics Operations in South Salmara District: Police Seize Drugs Worth Over ₹2 Crores
In a series of major anti-narcotics operations, South Salmara Police seized drugs worth over ₹2 crores. Acting on separate pieces of secret information, police teams carried out multiple raids across the district, apprehending suspects and recovering significant quantities of narcotics.
The first operation was conducted near Chirakhowa village. A team led by the In-charge of Kalapani Outpost searched Romjan Ali, a resident of Chirakhowa, South Salmara Mankachar district. During the raid, authorities recovered 11 vials of suspected brown sugar, weighing 12.48 grams, along with a Samsung mobile handset and ₹485 in cash. Independent witnesses were present during the search, and the entire process was video graphed to ensure transparency.
In another operation, Inspector JS Khobung, Officer-In-Charge of South Salmara Police Station, led a team targeting the Bhalughat area. They apprehended Abu Bakkar Siddique, a resident of Baladoba, and seized a substantial quantity of Tramadol capsules. The haul included 995 capsules of “Sampfx+”, 40 strips (with 960 capsules), and 35 loose capsules, totaling 716 grams. Additionally, the team confiscated two motorcycles (Yamaha R15 and Bajaj Pulsar) and a Motorola mobile phone. The seizure was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and documented on video.
The most significant operation unfolded in Bekardoba (Sonapur) Kathalbari. Based on intelligence about heroin stored in the area, a specialized anti-narcotics raid was launched under the leadership of Additional SP (HQ) South Salmara, with assistance from Deputy SP Anshul Sarma and the Officer-in-Charge of Mankachar Police Station.
During the search, police discovered the largest heroin haul in the district’s history. A total of 23 soap cases containing 252 grams of heroin were found hidden inside a carton placed in the ceiling of a house belonging to Nur Islam, a resident of Kathalbari. The heroin’s estimated market value is approximately ₹2 crores. Police also recovered black polythene bags, brown adhesive tape used for packaging, two smartphones, and other personal documents.
While one suspect, Mulukjan Nessa (30), was apprehended, the house owner, Nur Islam, fled the scene by jumping from the back of the house. Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest him.
These coordinated operations underscore the district police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of its residents. The seized items are now in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
