Arvind Kejriwal Remanded in Enforcement Directorate Custody Until April 1 in Connection with Delhi Excise Policy Case
Desk Report, March 28, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will continue to remain in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate until April 1, following an extension granted by Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Courts. Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, has been in the agency’s custody since then.
The decision to extend Kejriwal’s custody came as his initial seven-day stint in ED custody ended on March 28. Although the Enforcement Directorate had sought an additional seven days of custody, the court approved a four-day extension.
During his appearance in court, Arvind Kejriwal denounced the alleged excise policy scam as a “political conspiracy” and expressed confidence that the “people of the country will reply in the matter.” Speaking in Hindi, Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Enforcement Directorate, accusing the central agency of harboring a singular agenda to implicate him and undermine the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The ongoing legal proceedings have drawn significant attention, with observers closely monitoring developments as they unfold. Kejriwal’s remarks in court underscore the contentious nature of the case, which continues to unfold amidst political and legal scrutiny.
