Election Commission Unveils Three-Phase Schedule for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Assam
Desk Report, March 16, 2024: In a significant announcement, the Election Commission has divulged the schedule for the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state of Assam. The electoral process will unfold across three phases, set to commence on April 19, followed by subsequent phases on April 26 and May 7 respectively.
According to the delineation provided by the Election Commission, the initial phase on April 19 will witness voting activities concentrated in key constituencies including Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. Moving forward, the second phase slated for April 26 will encompass Darrang-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, and Nagaon. Finally, the conclusive phase on May 7 will feature electoral proceedings in Guwahati, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, and Barpeta constituencies.
Furthermore, with the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is set to come into immediate effect. As per protocol, the MCC will be enforced from the evening of the announcement date until the final declaration of results. This regulatory framework serves as a cornerstone for ensuring fair and transparent electoral practices, imposing restrictions on various activities of political parties and candidates to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
