Assam’s 8th National Park Approved: Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park to Boost Biodiversity Conservation

Guwahati; February 17, 2025: The Assam government has approved the Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park, making it the state’s eighth national park. Located in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, the park spans 316.29 sq. km, aiming to protect the region’s rich biodiversity.

The decision, made by the Assam Cabinet, highlights the state’s commitment to wildlife conservation. With diverse flora and fauna, the new park is expected to enhance eco-tourism and strengthen environmental protection efforts.

Assam is known for its national parks, including Kaziranga, Manas, and Dibru-Saikhowa. The addition of Sikhna Jwhwlao further strengthens the state’s status as a biodiversity hotspot. Conservationists believe this move will help preserve endangered species and their natural habitats.
