Assam to Celebrate Classical Language Status with ‘Bhasa Gaurob Saptah’ from November 3 to 9
Guwahati: On October 3, 2024, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officially recognized Assamese as a Classical Language. This milestone is a significant achievement for the state of Assam and its rich linguistic history.
In celebration of this recognition, Assam will observe “Bhasa Gaurob Saptah” from November 3 to 9, 2024. During this week-long event, universities, schools, and civil society organizations will host various programs to honor the contributions of Assamese writers and scholars. These individuals have played a pivotal role in shaping the language since the 4th century AD.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude, stating that the people of Assam are deeply thankful to Prime Minister Modi for this meaningful gesture, which underscores the importance of the state’s cultural and linguistic heritage.
