Memorandum Submitted by BJP Leaders Over Firing Incident at Samaguri Rally
In a significant turn within Assam’s political landscape, BJP leaders have united to condemn the recent attack on their colleague, MLA Jitu Goswami, during a campaign rally in Samaguri. Leading this call for justice, Assam Cabinet Minister Bimal Borah, along with BJP MLA Rupak Sarmah, State General Secretary Pulok Gohain, and Nagaon District President Abhijit Nath, submitted a memorandum to Nagaon District Commissioner (DC) Narendra Kumar Shah. They demanded prompt action against those involved in the incident, highlighting its potential to disrupt democratic processes.
Expressing deep concerns, Borah denounced the firing, describing it as an attempt to sabotage democracy and intimidate BJP supporters in the Samaguri constituency. He suggested that the Congress party, fearing loss in the upcoming by-elections, aimed to spread fear among the public through such acts.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Moriputhikhaity in Samaguri, where unidentified attackers reportedly fired shots as a BJP rally moved from Magurmari to Latani. The procession, attended by a large group of BJP supporters, including MLA Jitu Goswami and BJP leader Suresh Borah, descended into chaos following the gunfire. Several people sustained injuries, intensifying tensions across the area.
BJP leaders have urged DC Shah to take decisive measures against those responsible, emphasizing the need for immediate action to uphold public safety and democratic principles.
