Assam Boxers Excel at 38th National Games, Clinch Multiple Medals

Guwahati; February 08, 2025: Assam’s boxers delivered an outstanding performance at the 38th National Games, securing multiple medals on Friday, February 7. Olympian Lovlina Borgohain and Ankushita Boro emerged victorious with gold medals, while Shiva Thapa and Abhinav Saikia bagged silver. Aikon Millie added to the medal tally with a bronze.

Lovlina, competing in the women’s middleweight (75 kg) category, showcased her experience and dominance, defeating her Himachal Pradesh opponent with ease. Her strategic gameplay and precise punches secured her the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Ankushita Boro continued her remarkable form in the women’s 66 kg category. She displayed exceptional skill and resilience, overpowering her rival from Uttarakhand to claim the top spot on the podium.

In the men’s division, seasoned boxer Shiva Thapa fought valiantly in his category but had to settle for silver. Abhinav Saikia also put up a strong performance, securing another silver for Assam. Additionally, Aikon Millie contributed to the state’s medal count by earning a bronze.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to ‘X’ to congratulate by stating “Congratulations to ace Assamese pugilists @LovlinaBorgohai and Ankushita Boro for clinching GOLD in their respective bouts at the 38th #NationalGames2025. Their achievements will inspire many more budding sportspersons in the region.”

The 2025 National Games, which began on January 28, will continue until February 14. With this success, Assam’s boxing contingent has reinforced its position as a powerhouse in Indian boxing.

Sports enthusiasts across the country are now looking forward to more thrilling matches as the event progresses.
