Assam Cabinet Announces Key Policy Decisions to Drive Growth Across Sectors

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has announced a series of initiatives spanning green energy, rural development, healthcare, law enforcement, and worker welfare.

Here are the highlights of the latest decisions:

Boost for Green Energy:

The Cabinet signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reliance Bio-Energy Limited, promoting the compressed biogas sector across Assam. This eco-friendly initiative will create jobs for farmers by developing a sustainable biogas chain, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Rural Development Drive:

To enhance rural infrastructure, the Cabinet approved the construction of 97 roads and 70 minor irrigation projects, costing ₹428.62 crore. Funded by NABARD’s RIDF-XXX scheme, these projects will improve connectivity and farming capabilities in multiple districts.

Improved Social Security for Tea Garden Workers:

The Assam Cabinet amended the Assam Tea Plantations Provident Fund & Pension Fund Scheme, ensuring that all tea garden workers, even those earning above ₹15,000, are eligible for provident fund benefits, broadening social security within the sector.

Investment in Numaligarh Refinery:

In line with expanding Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), the Cabinet allocated ₹205.72 crore to increase equity in NRL, which will support expansion efforts and generate local jobs.

Enhanced Free Healthcare in Medical Colleges:

The Cabinet allocated ₹175 crore for essential drugs, surgical supplies, and linens for all Assam medical college hospitals. This program aims to improve healthcare access, benefiting 12 medical colleges and other hospitals across the state.

Patharkandi’s Urban Governance Upgraded:

To improve local governance, the Cabinet established the Patharkandi Municipal Board, covering 10 wards and 7 villages. This change replaces the existing Gaon Panchayat, offering a more structured municipal framework.

Strengthening Police Infrastructure via MOITRI:

The Cabinet sanctioned ₹150 crore for upgrading police stations through the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) initiative. It will modernize police stations with better facilities, cyber tools, and internet connectivity, enhancing law enforcement capabilities.

New Election Office in Tamulpur:

A new Election Establishment in Tamulpur has been approved to streamline election operations. This office will manage tasks like Special Summary Revision (SSR) for the Tamulpur (ST) and Goreswar constituencies.

PWD Reappointments to Bolster Infrastructure:

To expedite infrastructure projects, 36 Assistant Engineers (Civil) have been reappointed in the Public Works Department (PWD) for four months or until APSC’s next recommendation, whichever comes first.

Sports Recognition with New Appointment:

Celebrated archer Jayanta Talukdar has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police under Assam’s Integrated Sports Policy, honoring his achievements in international games.

Village Classification Changes under Mising Autonomous Council:

The Cabinet revised village classifications under the Mising Autonomous Council. Changes include denotifying 273 census villages without Mising residents, with 255 villages now reserved for the Mising population.

These measures highlight Assam’s commitment to sustainable growth, social welfare, and development across various sectors, aiming to elevate the state’s quality of life and infrastructure.
