Assam Cabinet Enforces Statewide Ban on Public Consumption of Beef
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has taken a decisive step to prohibit the public consumption of beef across the state. This comprehensive ban extends to serving beef in hotels, restaurants, and social gatherings. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this significant decision during a virtual media interaction from Delhi following the Cabinet meeting earlier today.
Effective immediately, no establishment, including hotels and restaurants, can serve beef. The restriction also applies to any form of public gathering, including social events. Emphasizing the importance of this decision, Chief Minister Sarma stated, “Today, the Assam Cabinet has resolved to ban the consumption and serving of beef in all public places, including hotels and social gatherings.”
The Chief Minister further clarified that this prohibition aims to uphold the government’s commitment to preventing cattle slaughter within the state. He revealed plans to incorporate this new provision into the existing legal framework, ensuring its long-term enforcement.
In his remarks, Sarma expressed optimism about securing bipartisan support for the move, underlining its alignment with broader welfare goals. He stated that the decision reflects the administration’s focus on addressing concerns surrounding cattle slaughter and its implications.
The Cabinet’s announcement has already drawn attention statewide, sparking discussions about its implications for Assam’s culinary and cultural landscape. The government is expected to release additional details about the implementation and legal formalities in the coming days.
