Assam Chief Minister Leads Key Meeting on Skill Development and Employment
Guwahati, August 09, 2024: In a crucial meeting on skill development, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, engaged with senior officials from the Department of Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship. The meeting focused on enhancing the skill sets of Assam’s future workforce and addressed several key areas for improvement.
Dr. Sarma emphasized the following initiatives:
– Enhancing ITI Pedagogy: Revamping the teaching methods at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to better align with industry needs.
– Updating Syllabi: Replacing outdated curricula with advanced courses in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Drone Robotics.
– Establishing ITIs: Developing a strategic plan to set up ITIs across all constituencies to meet regional demands.
– Youth Training Programs: Training 50,000 young individuals in skills pertinent to GST, Company Secretary (CS), and Financial Services.
– Sector-Specific Focus: Concentrating on ten critical areas to address manpower needs in sectors like semiconductors, healthcare, and agriculture.
– Long-Term Vision: Crafting a roadmap for human resource development to support the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
– Integration with Assam Skill University: Incorporating all ITIs under the framework of Assam Skill University.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to adopt best practices to enhance the employability of Assam’s youth. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to equipping the next generation with the necessary skills for a rapidly evolving job market.
