Assam CM Emphasizes Tai Ahom Heritage and Development in Dibrugarh
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Highlights Cultural Preservation, Lays Foundation for Key Flyover Projects
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spotlighted Assam’s cultural and infrastructure development while addressing the 3rd Tai Ethnic Cultural Festival and the 1st International Tai Youth Festival. The events were held in Tengakhat, Dibrugarh district, under the banner of the United Tai Ethnic Socio-Cultural Organisation.
Highlighting the contributions of the Tai Ahoms to Assam’s political, social, cultural, and economic history, Sarma announced several preservation initiatives. He underscored the recognition of Charaideo Maidam as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Additionally, he emphasized the restoration of the historic Rang Ghar and the establishment of a museum at Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra.
In a bid to honor Tai Ahom leaders, Sarma mentioned the planned installation of a 52-foot statue of Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha at Tipam. A statue of Lachit Borphukan, a revered Assamese general, will also be erected at Hollongapar.
Continuing his development drive, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for four major two-lane flyover projects. The projects, with an estimated cost of ₹377 crore, aim to reduce traffic congestion in key areas of Dibrugarh district.
The flyovers will be constructed at Mancotta Road Over Bridge, Amolapatty Junction, Lahowal-Bordubi-Tinsukia Road Over Bridge on Old NH-37, and Lezai Kalakhowa Road. These infrastructure upgrades are expected to ease commutes and enhance connectivity in the region.
By combining cultural preservation with infrastructure development, the Assam government continues its efforts to honor the state’s rich history while fostering progress.
