Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Engages Bhutan on Economic and Industrial Growth

In a significant move toward regional collaboration, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, to discuss transformative growth initiatives. The visit focused on building robust economic, industrial, and transportation linkages between Assam and Bhutan, marking a new chapter in cross-border cooperation.

During his visit, the Chief Minister held in-depth discussions with Dr. Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). Their dialogue centered on boosting economic ties and establishing transportation networks to enhance trade and industrial growth. Gelephu Mindfulness City, envisioned as a hub of innovation and sustainability, holds significant potential for fostering regional partnerships with Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma also emphasized the importance of addressing power needs through renewable energy solutions. He met with officials from the Druk Green Power Corporation to explore avenues for sustainable energy collaboration. Bhutan’s expertise in hydropower presents an opportunity to fulfill Assam’s growing energy requirements while advancing clean energy goals.

Moreover, the Assam Chief Minister urged Druk Holdings and Investments (DHI), Bhutan’s leading investment arm, to explore opportunities in Assam. He highlighted the state’s upcoming global investors’ summit, Advantage Assam, as a platform to attract Bhutanese investments into key sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, and technology.

The discussions reflect Assam’s vision for regional connectivity and economic growth, inspired by Bhutan’s progressive initiatives. The visit not only strengthens ties between the two neighbors but also underscores the shared commitment to achieving sustainable development in the region.
