Assam CM Joins Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Nepali Sahitya Sabha

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the golden jubilee celebrations of the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, held in Sarupathar. The event commemorated the Sabha’s 50-year legacy and highlighted its significant role in fostering unity and cultural development.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister paid homage to Kushal Konwar, a revered martyr of the 1942 Quit India Movement. He praised Konwar’s bravery and sacrifice, describing his legacy as a source of immense pride for Assam and the nation.

In his address, Dr. Sarma lauded the Gorkha community for their invaluable contributions to Assamese society. He acknowledged their efforts to adopt Assamese as the medium of education while simultaneously preserving and promoting the Nepali language and literature. This dual approach, he noted, has strengthened cultural ties and enriched the state’s literary heritage.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha’s pivotal role as a cultural institution. For five decades, the Sabha has worked tirelessly to promote unity, harmony, and the Assamese language within the Gorkha community. Its contributions, he said, reflect the community’s commitment to fostering a shared identity while honoring their cultural roots.

The golden jubilee celebrations featured cultural performances, literary discussions, and tributes to the Sabha’s founding members. The event served as a testament to the enduring bond between the Gorkha community and Assamese culture, highlighting their shared commitment to progress and harmony.
