Assam CM Reviews ₹25,000 Cr Guwahati-Silchar Expressway and Major NH Projects with NHIDCL

Guwahati; April 08, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), in Guwahati. The meeting focused on reviewing major infrastructure projects currently under NHIDCL in the state.

The highlight was the ₹25,000 crore Guwahati-Silchar Expressway. This expressway is a key connectivity project that aims to boost transport and economic growth across Assam. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to fast-track construction and maintain quality standards.

Another major project under review was the ambitious underwater tunnel between Numaligarh and Gohpur. Once completed, this tunnel will significantly reduce travel time and improve regional access. It is also expected to support disaster resilience by offering an all-weather link.

The expansion of the National Highway network was also discussed. This includes key routes such as Baihata Chariali to Tezpur and Gohpur to Kulajan. These roadways are crucial for easing traffic congestion and enhancing trade routes within Assam and beyond.

CM Sarma urged NHIDCL to ensure timely completion of all ongoing works. He also highlighted the importance of proper coordination between the state and central agencies for smooth execution.

So, with strong government backing and major financial support, Assam is witnessing a rapid transformation in its road infrastructure. These projects are expected to play a vital role in shaping the state’s future connectivity and development.
