Assam Government to Launch Mega DBT Program for Flood Relief, Says CM Sarma

Guwahati, September 01, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recently convened a virtual meeting with all District Commissioners (DCs) to thoroughly review and discuss the ongoing flood relief efforts in Assam. The meeting focused on ensuring the efficient distribution of aid and the implementation of essential measures to support those affected by the floods. During the discussion, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the urgency of timely and effective action, given the widespread impact of the floods across various districts.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the Chief Minister’s directive to implement a mega Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program. This initiative aims to ensure that financial aid reaches the bank accounts of those impacted by the floods directly, minimizing delays and ensuring transparency in the distribution process. Dr. Sarma instructed the DCs to coordinate closely with state authorities and banks to facilitate this seamless transfer of funds, ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries receive the necessary support without any administrative hurdles.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of maintaining a robust communication channel between the district administration and the affected communities. He called for regular monitoring of the flood situation and urged DCs to remain vigilant, particularly in the most vulnerable areas. Dr. Sarma concluded the meeting by reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources to mitigate the flood’s impact and support the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected population.
