Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Attends Bhutan’s 117th National Day, Highlights Bilateral Ties
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the vibrant 117th National Day celebrations of Bhutan in Thimphu. The event marked Bhutan’s rich history, culture, and heritage, while commemorating the coronation of its first King, Ugyen Wangchuk, in 1907.
Dr. Sarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty the King for the warm hospitality and shared his delight in participating in the festivities. The occasion honored the sacrifices made by Bhutan’s forefathers, showcasing the nation’s unity and pride.
On the sidelines of the celebrations, Dr. Sarma led the Advantage Assam Roadshow in Thimphu. During the event, he extended a cordial invitation to Bhutan’s Prime Minister, H.E. Dasho Tshering Tobgay, and other dignitaries to explore opportunities at the upcoming Advantage Assam Summit 2025.
Highlighting the close geographical ties between Assam and Bhutan, Dr. Sarma emphasized the potential for stronger cooperation. Key areas include the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, energy generation, healthcare, tourism, and skill development. He stressed that Assam will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and strengthening the timeless bond between the two nations.
Dr. Sarma praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo for uniting India and Bhutan in their shared pursuit of prosperity. He underscored the importance of leveraging the partnership for mutual progress.
With Assam as a gateway, both nations have immense potential for collaboration in economic and cultural spheres. The initiatives discussed at the Roadshow aim to deepen ties and open new avenues for growth.
The celebrations and meetings in Thimphu reflected the enduring friendship and mutual respect between India and Bhutan. Dr. Sarma’s visit highlighted Assam’s pivotal role in advancing regional cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations.
