Jorhat, January 24, 2024 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing developmental initiatives in Jorhat district on January 23, focusing on key projects such as the upcoming grand statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan in Hollongapar. During the assessment, the Chief Minister also discussed preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Assam.
Taking to the platform X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared updates, stating, “Today in Jorhat, I reviewed the progress of various developmental initiatives in the district, including the upcoming grand statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan in Hollongapar. We also discussed preparations for Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji’s proposed visit to Assam.”
The monumental statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan, set to stand at a towering height of 150 feet, is a tribute to the legendary General whose heroic efforts protected Assam from falling into Mughal hands. The statue, constructed at a cost of Rs 175 crore, is scheduled to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
In addition to the statue, a grand museum and interpretation center will be established, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of Lachit Barphukan’s life and achievements through audio-visual and pictorial representations. The immersive experience aims to offer a 360-degree view of the historical figure. Furthermore, a war museum will be part of the project, featuring galleries showcasing artifacts and relics representing the grandeur of the Ahom Kingdom and Lachit Barphukan’s significant role.
