Assam’s Strategic Growth Initiatives Highlighted at NITI Aayog Governing Council
Guwahati, July 28, 2024: In a significant address at the 9th Governing Council of the NITI Aayog, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the strategic initiatives undertaken by Assam that align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Chief Minister Sarma underscored Assam’s rapid development, highlighting the state’s impressive Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate of 13%. Since 2020, Assam’s capital expenditure has expanded by 59%. He also noted that Assam’s average power supply, at 23 hours per day, surpasses the national average.
“Assam is today amongst the fastest-growing states,” Sarma stated, detailing the state’s investment in critical infrastructure. The Assam government is investing heavily in roads, healthcare, and education infrastructure. Key projects include the construction of ₹35,000 crore worth of water supply assets and 13,000 new classrooms under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). Efforts are also underway to reintegrate 81,000 out-of-school students and build a renewable energy capacity of 3,000 MW.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the government’s commitment to holistic development. “Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, in the coming days, Assam will take concrete measures to upskill our workforce, build a solid industrial base, maintain law and order, and place primacy on Jan Bhagidari initiatives that contribute towards an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’,” he said.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance Assam’s contribution to the national economy and ensure sustainable development.
