Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Discuss Key Infrastructure Projects
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a pivotal meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), in New Delhi to accelerate key infrastructure projects in the state. The meeting underlined the commitment of both the Central and State governments to ensure timely completion of transformative projects that aim to boost Assam’s connectivity and economic growth.
Major Projects Discussed:
1. Guwahati Ring Road: The proposed Guwahati Ring Road project is envisioned to decongest urban traffic in the city. This critical initiative is expected to enhance intra-city mobility and provide a seamless travel experience.
2. Kaziranga Elevated Corridor: The Kaziranga Elevated Corridor is a flagship project aimed at protecting wildlife while ensuring smoother transit for travelers. The corridor is crucial for preserving the natural habitat of the UNESCO World Heritage Site while addressing vehicular challenges on National Highway 37.
3. Gohpur-Numaligarh Underwater Tunnel: The ambitious Gohpur-Numaligarh Underwater Tunnel project aims to bolster connectivity across the Brahmaputra River. Once completed, the tunnel will significantly reduce travel time and foster socio-economic development in the region.
The meeting emphasized the acceleration of work on the Jorhat-Dibrugarh National Highway, a vital link that facilitates trade and movement across upper Assam. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the double-laning of the Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali highway, which will improve access and enhance transportation efficiency in the state.
Dr. Sarma and Mr. Gadkari conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing infrastructure projects managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The review aimed to address challenges and ensure adherence to project timelines.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the projects, CM Sarma expressed gratitude to Minister Gadkari and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for their unwavering support. He emphasized Assam’s readiness to collaborate and expedite clearances, approvals, and on-ground work to ensure the projects’ success.
Minister Gadkari reiterated the Union Government’s dedication to developing world-class infrastructure in the Northeast. He assured the Assam Chief Minister of continued financial and technical support to address the state’s infrastructural challenges effectively.
