Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Promotes Trade and Investment Opportunities in South Korea

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recently held discussions with a delegation from the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) in Seoul, South Korea. Representing over 73,000 member companies, KITA is South Korea’s largest business organization. The discussions centered on exploring global market opportunities for Assam’s tea, silk, and agricultural products through KITA’s extensive network.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also met CEOs and leaders of South Korea’s automobile ancillary firms. He highlighted Assam’s potential as a strategic base, offering seamless access to India’s $100 billion auto industry and the Southeast Asian market. Dr. Sarma assured full state support to companies looking to establish their operations in Assam.

In another significant meeting with Kyungsung Kang, President, Eunyoung Yang, Director General, and Hanseung Kim, Director of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Dr. Sarma discussed attracting Korean investments to Assam. The talks emphasized the importance of Korean participation in the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, which aims to showcase the state’s investment potential.

The Chief Minister also participated in the Advantage Assam 2.0 Roadshow, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in South Korea. The event saw the attendance of 140 Korean business leaders who expressed keen interest in Assam’s growth story. Dr. Sarma outlined the Indian government’s special focus on the Northeast region as a vital driver for industrial growth. He invited the business leaders to be a part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.

The roadshow generated optimism among the Korean business community, with many expressing enthusiasm about collaborating with Assam. Dr. Sarma later addressed the press in Seoul, highlighting the state’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and creating a conducive business environment.

This visit underscores Assam’s proactive approach to strengthening international trade and attracting investments, positioning the state as a hub for global business opportunities.
