Government to Regulate Coaching Institutes in Assam
Assam Cabinet Approves Regulation of Coaching Institutes and Fair NEET Exam Conduct
Guwahati; March 10, 2025: To safeguard students’ rights, the Assam Cabinet has approved the Assam Coaching Institutes (Control & Regulation) Act, 2025. This move aims to provide protection, guidance, and academic support to students enrolled in coaching centers. The law will set guidelines to monitor and regulate these institutes effectively.
The Assam Cabinet also addressed concerns over the conduct of NEET exams, following an investigation by Assam Police. The probe revealed that most NEET centers operate in private institutions, raising transparency concerns.
To ensure fairness, the Cabinet resolved to:
- Request NTA to allot NEET centers in government schools only.
- Ensure examinations are conducted under District Commissioners’ supervision for better oversight.
- Direct the Chief Secretary to discuss the matter with NTA and the Secretary to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Education.
This decision aims to enhance exam transparency and fairness while preventing irregularities in the medical entrance test.
