Jorhat, January 31, 2024: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah appeared before the police in Jorhat today and was interrogated for approximately three hours in connection with a case related to the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.
Borah, who was summoned in connection with allegations of diverting the route and causing chaos during the yatra, appeared at the Jorhat Police Station. He was accompanied by CLP leader Debabarata Saikia, Titabor MLA Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, a legal team, and several party workers.
It was clarified that Borah, despite not applying for anticipatory bail, has been summoned again on February 12 after the interrogation concluded. Borah stated, “I appeared before the police at 11 am. Four officers questioned me for three hours. They have given me another notice to appear before them on February 12. I have also agreed to come on February 12.”
Borah contested that the police did not communicate about diverting routes during the Nyay Yatra in Jorhat. He claimed that there was no police presence when the yatra reached Jorhat town and criticized the lack of guidance from law enforcement. Borah also raised concerns about the lack of action against individuals who assaulted him during the yatra.

Addressing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Borah alleged that the CM is disturbed as his alleged corruption has been exposed. He accused Sarma of deflecting anger towards him and claimed that Sarma has become a liability for the BJP.
The police had served a notice to Bhupen Borah last week under Section 41(A) of CrPC, and the case involves charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, use of criminal force under IPC, and relevant charges under the PDPP Act.
