Assam Slashes Electricity Tariffs from April 2025: Big Relief for 68 Lakh Consumers

Electricity Bills to Drop in Assam: ₹1/unit Slash for Domestic Users from April 1

Guwahati; March 26, 2025: In a major relief to electricity consumers, the Assam government has announced a reduction in power tariffs effective from April 1, 2025. The new tariff structure will benefit 68 lakh consumers, especially those in the Jeevan Dhara and domestic categories, with a ₹1 per unit cut in electricity rates. The revised tariffs will be reflected in electricity bills from May 2025.

This decision is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to households before the peak summer months, when electricity consumption typically surges.

Tariff Reduction Across Consumer Categories under the revised structure, electricity rates will be reduced as follows:

  • Jeevan Dhara and Domestic Consumers: ₹1/unit reduction
  • Agricultural, Industrial, and Commercial Consumers: 25 paise/unit reduction

The move will ease the financial burden on the lower and middle-income groups, who form a significant portion of Assam’s power consumers.

With summer demand expected to rise sharply, the reduction will lower household expenses and help businesses manage operational costs. The industrial and commercial sector will also benefit, making Assam a more business-friendly state.

The revised tariffs will come into effect from April 1, 2025, and consumers will start seeing the reduced rates in their electricity bills from May 2025.
