Assam Forest Protection Force Inducts 940 New Recruits in Historic Passing Out Parade
Guwahati, August 07, 2024: In a historic event, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the first-ever Passing Out Parade of the Assam Forest Protection Force (AFPF) today. A total of 940 new recruits were formally inducted, boosting the force’s strength by an impressive 120%. This significant increase underscores the state’s commitment to safeguarding its forests and wildlife.
The new cohort includes 90 female constables, showcasing a commendable step towards gender inclusion in the force. The 3rd AFPF Battalion will be entirely composed of these newly inducted recruits. During the ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the critical role of the AFPF in protecting Assam’s rich biodiversity.
“In Assam, we have over 26,800 square kilometers of forest land housing diverse wildlife which we must protect from illegal activities,” stated Dr. Sarma. “I urge our Forest Protection Force to rise to the occasion and protect our forests.”
The Chief Minister also encouraged the recruits to perform their duties with utmost sincerity, highlighting the importance of their role in preserving the state’s natural heritage. He wished them good luck in their new roles and reiterated the government’s support in their mission to combat forest-related crimes and environmental threats.
This induction marks a pivotal moment for Assam’s efforts in environmental conservation, setting a strong foundation for future endeavors to protect the state’s forests and wildlife.
