Assam Government Launches ₹1500 Crore ‘Nijut Moina Asoni’ to Combat Child Marriage
Guwahati, August 08, 2024: In a significant move to curb child marriage, the Assam government today introduced the ₹1500 crore Nijut Moina Asoni scheme. This initiative, aimed at empowering young girls, will provide financial assistance to 10 lakh beneficiaries across the state.
The Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Asoni scheme offers monthly financial aid to girls pursuing higher education, spanning from Higher Secondary (HS) to Post Graduate (PG) levels in government and government-aided colleges. The financial support structure is as follows: ₹1,000 per month for 10 months at the HS level, ₹1,250 per month at the Graduation level, and ₹2,500 per month at the PG level.
This scheme is designed to encourage students to continue their education, providing a robust support system that complements the ongoing ‘Free Admission’ scheme of the government. However, daughters of Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of Parliament (MPs), and Ministers will not be eligible for this financial aid.
The Assam government’s initiative underscores its commitment to eradicating child marriage and promoting education among young girls, thereby fostering a more progressive and educated society.
