Assam Government Continues “Matri Pitri Vandana” Initiative with Special Leave for Employees
Guwahati, July 11, 2024: The Assam government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of state employees and their families by announcing the continuation of the “Matri Pitri Vandana” initiative. This program grants special casual leave to state government employees on November 6 and 8, specifically to spend quality time with their parents or parents-in-law.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the initiative’s significance, stressing the importance of honoring and caring for ageing parents. The leave aims to provide employees with the opportunity to show respect and companionship to their elders, reinforcing familial bonds and ensuring the well-being of older family members.
To maximize the benefit, employees can combine this leave with other holidays, including Chhat Puja on November 7, the second Saturday on November 9, and Sunday on November 10. This arrangement potentially allows for an extended period of family time. However, employees working in essential services will have to avail of this leave in a phased manner to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
It is important to note that this leave is strictly designated for spending time with parents or parents-in-law. It cannot be used for personal enjoyment or any other purposes. Furthermore, employees who do not have living parents or parents-in-law are not eligible for this special leave.
State government employees seeking to apply for this leave or to get more information about the “Matri Pitri Vandana” initiative can visit the official website at matripitrivandana.assam.gov.in.
