Assam Government Suspends February Salaries for Educational Institutions Over Data Compliance
Desk Report, March 01, 2024: In a significant move, the Assam government’s finance department issued a directive on Thursday, announcing the suspension of salaries for February for employees in specific educational institutions. The decision stems from their failure to upload “complete and correct data” on the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) portal.
This strict stance reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to enforcing compliance within educational institutions regarding the AISHE portal. Employees in non-compliant institutions will bear the consequences as their remunerations for February face withholding.
The finance department’s order explicitly outlines the criteria for withholding salaries. It states, “You are requested to not release salary for the month of February 2024 in respect of all employees of the following types of educational institutions without receipt of a certificate from the higher education department regarding uploading of complete and correct data by the institutions in the AISHE portal.”
The order identifies several categories of educational institutions under scrutiny, including government, provincialized, government model, and PDDUM colleges, state universities, and engineering colleges/polytechnic institutions, all falling under the Higher Education Department.
Likewise, the directive extends to the School Education Department, covering B.Ed colleges and District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs). The Medical Education and Research Department is also included, encompassing medical colleges and para-medical colleges/institutes.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to data accuracy and transparency in educational reporting. The withholding of salaries serves as a firm measure to ensure institutions adhere to the mandated norms outlined on the AISHE portal.
