Assam Government Launches ‘Orunodoi 3’ Scheme to Empower Vulnerable Women and Families
Guwahati, September 19, 2024: The Assam Government has taken a major step to strengthen women’s empowerment through its ‘Orunodoi 3’ initiative. Women from all 126 constituencies came together today to celebrate the launch, which aims to provide monthly financial aid of ₹1,250 to 37 lakh families across the state. This scheme specifically prioritizes destitute women, persons with disabilities (divyangs), widows, transgenders, and other vulnerable sections, ensuring financial security for those most in need.
Under the ‘Orunodoi 3’ program, families earning less than ₹2 lakh annually are eligible to apply for benefits. The state government will spend an estimated ₹467 crore every month to support these families. Moreover, an additional 12 lakh beneficiaries will be included under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), entitling them to free food grains every month. The government plans to allocate over ₹440 crore monthly towards this extension of NFSA benefits.
Apart from financial assistance, beneficiaries of the NFSA program will also be eligible for free healthcare under Ayushman Bharat, creating a holistic welfare net. This network covers essential needs like nutrition, healthcare, and financial stability. The government’s swift implementation of these initiatives aligns with its promise made during the Lok Sabha election campaign. Within 100 days of the elections, these crucial steps have been taken to fulfill their commitment to the people.
