Assam Government Launches ₹2,529 Crore ASSIST Project to Transform Healthcare Institutions
Guwahati: In a significant step towards bolstering healthcare infrastructure in Assam, the state government has launched the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST). With a substantial project cost of ₹2,529.17 crore, the initiative aims to enhance the state’s secondary healthcare system through strategic interventions.
Key Objectives of the ASSIST Project:
1. Strengthening the management capacity of healthcare systems at the state, district, and facility levels.
2. Improving access to and the quality of essential services in existing secondary healthcare facilities.
3. Enhancing access to and upgrading the structural quality of secondary care across Assam.
As part of this ambitious project, the Assam government has planned the construction of 10 new district hospitals, which will collectively add 1,150 beds to the state’s healthcare capacity. These hospitals are distributed across key regions to ensure greater accessibility:
– 150-bedded hospital in Kaliabor
– 100-bedded hospitals in Dudhnai, Sarukhetri, Kaliapani, Narayanapur, Azara, Lakhipur, Abhayapuri, and Bajali
– 200-bedded hospitals in Dibrugarh
In addition to constructing new hospitals, the project also emphasizes the redevelopment of 25 existing healthcare facilities. This move is expected to improve the overall quality of healthcare delivery and bridge service gaps in the state’s secondary healthcare framework.
The ASSIST initiative is set to transform Assam’s healthcare landscape by improving access to high-quality medical services for underserved regions. The additional infrastructure will not only cater to the growing population but also provide better facilities for treatment and diagnosis.
The state’s commitment to a robust and inclusive healthcare system through initiatives like ASSIST reflects a proactive approach to public health and welfare.
