Assam to Launch ‘ASSAMSAT’ Satellite for Governance and Development

Guwahati; March 11, 2025: Assam is set to launch its first dedicated satellite, ‘ASSAMSAT,’ marking a major step in using space technology for governance and development. The announcement came from Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog while presenting the 2025-26 state budget in the Assembly on Monday.

Ajanta Neog emphasized that the state government aims to ensure a continuous and reliable flow of crucial data for the effective execution of socio-economic projects. The satellite will play a key role in agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security, and policing.

This ambitious initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), operating under the Union Ministry of Space. By launching ‘ASSAMSAT,’ Assam positions itself as a forward-thinking state, leveraging advanced technology to improve governance and public services.

Additionally, the Assam government plans to involve students from colleges and universities in experimental satellite development. This initiative, in partnership with IN-SPACe and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), aims to foster innovation and inspire young minds in the field of space technology.

With ‘ASSAMSAT,’ Assam moves towards a future driven by technology, ensuring better service delivery and efficient project implementation across various sectors.
