Government Employee Arrested in Cachar for Accepting Bribe, Over ₹10 Lakh Seized
Silchar, July 19, 2024: A team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, has apprehended Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya, a Patwari in the Sadar Circle of Cachar, caught red-handed accepting a bribe. Barbhuiya was detained in his office after accepting ₹5,000 as part of a bribe demanded for processing compensation related to land acquisition for road construction.
The operation, conducted by the Directorate, led to the immediate arrest of Barbhuiya. Following his detention, a search was carried out at his residence in Sonai, Cachar. During this search, Cachar Police recovered and seized a substantial amount of ₹10,90,000 in cash.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption to combat corruption within the state. Barbhuiya’s arrest underscores the commitment to tackling illegal practices in public service and ensuring accountability in official transactions.
The case is currently under further investigation, with authorities scrutinizing the source of the large sum of money and its connection to the bribe.
