Assam Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate Traps Assistant BDO and BDO in Bongaigaon Bribery Case
Guwahati, August 16, 2024: In a high-profile anti-corruption operation, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, has apprehended two Government officials for their involvement in bribery. Nekib Ahmed, Assistant Block Development Officer (ABDO) of Srijangram Development Block, Bongaigaon district, was caught red handed accepting bribe of ₹16,000. The arrest occurred in the office of Khurseeda Khanam, Block Development Officer (BDO) of the same block, where Ahmed received the illicit payment.
The operation not only targeted Ahmed but also uncovered the involvement of Khanam, who was found to be complicit in the bribery conspiracy. Khanam, an official responsible for overseeing development projects, had conspired with Ahmed to demand and accept the bribe. This revelation highlights a disturbing level of corruption within the local administration.
Both Ahmed and Khanam now face serious legal repercussions as a result of their actions. The Directorate’s operation exemplifies its unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring integrity within public service. The arrests serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in corrupt practices.
